Well this year didn’t turn out exactly like anyone wanted. Our wedding in Italy is postponed till next summer, hopefully the situation is more under control until then. We did go to Gotland last week on a mini vacation, amazing like always, and also this time little Sedàra came with us.
We arrived in Visby in the evening and stopped for a pizza at Mille Lire, the best pizza there…really good and of course Italian! After dinner headed 10-15 minutes by car north of Visby to Snäck where we stayed at a motel called Snäck Annex where dogs are allowed. It’s located close to a long beach in that area.
We recommend you to try Själsö Bageri close to Snäck, really good breakfast, buns and coffee there! The buns are really sticky and buttery 🙂
After Snäck we went down towards Klintehamn, to a place called Mattserve Gästgiveri, also a hotel/hostel where dogs are more than welcome. A really cute place where they have chickens walking around the grounds. The breakfast was really nice and also the dinner we had there one evening was really good.
Last time we were on Gotland we went up north to Fårö, this time we went to the southern parts, to Hoburgen for example. A beautiful place, the nature is amazing, a bit windy when we were there, but since Gotland is an island that is normal.
This year we also picked blue raspberries, called salmbär, that only exists on Gotland. We have now cooked jam of them, classic to serve to saffron pancake that is a traditional dish from there.
On the way back to Visby we stopped at Hablingbo Crêperie and had amazing galettes and crêpes, recommend you to try this restaurant. Since the low season just started when we arrived to Gotland there were almost no people at the restaurants. It was nice with fewer tourists, but one of the down parts of going off season is that a lot of genuine places (outside Visby) are closed.
Also on this vacation we managed to visit some friends living in Lye, we went to Katthammarsvik, where they have a nice fish and shrimp smokehouse, and we visited Ljugarn together. The last hours of this mini vacation we spent in Visby.
A little advice, if you would like nice and fresh products is to stop by the local farmers, almost all over Gotland and buy the freshest vegetables and amazing fruit. Sometimes they even make jams and juices or syrups. There is not staff, they trust you, so you buy and swish.. amazing trust!
Gotland is always a nice choice and we will be back soon!
